Resting upon an octagonal bakelite base, the mechanical side to the clock is Jaeger’s Cal. 201, with a rhodium-plated, straight-line lever escapement. Wound and set through a key and stem, respectively, these are recessed into the back of the base, as with the electrical connection for the globe’s lighting. The time is shown beneath two red ‘triangles’ on the base, via a disc, with two 12-hour time zones. Of the two zones, one displays a lighter colouration, representing the day, with the other darker-toned section showing the night hours. A smaller, 24-hour scale is also visible, seen above the large Arabic numerals.
For setting the world-time display, the globe can be loosened and the country of choice, aligned to the red triangles displaying time. With this, the Mappemonde displays an approximation of the time globally.
Viewings can be arranged in Central London by appointment.
